I am evaluating mxGraph for a commercial application.

Is there a way to move vertexes and edges together? For example in the image below I would like to be able to move task 2 and have all symbols move as well.

If this is possible, can the layout manager respect this constraint?

Not "the", but "a" layout manager can respect this. You'd need to implement it.

That doesn't really answer my first question. "Is there a way to move vertexes and edges together?" A code snippet to demonstrate this would really be helpful.

It's possible. If you want a layout to respect your changes, you would have to customise the layout to understand the context of what you're doing. The layout manager controls running automatic layouting, it only runs what layout(s) are available.

Most layouts have some isMovable flag that you could override and not allow cells that you've manually moved to be moved as part of the layout?

Which layout are you intending to use?
